Curriculum Overview

At Fulham Cross Academy, The FCA Way is our research-informed framework for planning, teaching and assessment. It provides the clarity and consistency needed to deliver excellence, while aligning with our vision of being a beacon of learning, creativity, and growth in London.

Our mission is to provide a student-centred, cutting-edge curriculum where every learner experiences academic challenge, develops practical skills and is prepared for success in life and work. Many of our students face systemic barriers, yet these do not limit ambition. Through high-quality teaching and intentional design, we give all students the tools to flourish.

We believe that structure liberates. Defined routines and principles free teachers to be adaptive, responsive and creative, while students benefit from coherent learning journeys that reduce cognitive load and maximise retention. Adaptive teaching is embedded, enabling staff to respond to real-time needs without compromising curriculum coherence.

The FCA Way establishes shared language, practices and expectations that make innovation, excellence and inclusion daily realities. Our curriculum, pedagogy and assessment are deliberately aligned to build cumulative fluency, ensuring knowledge is mastered, reinforced and applied.

From KS3 to KS5, the curriculum builds progressively: KS3 secures foundations, KS4 ensures mastery of declarative and procedural knowledge, and KS5 extends challenge towards university-level thinking. It is:

  • Knowledge-rich and backwards-planned
  • Carefully sequenced for progression
  • Vocabulary-rich
  • Enriching beyond the classroom
  • Flexible and reflective
  • Representative and culturally broad
  • In this way, learning at FCA is not just content but a purposeful journey of growth and challenge for every student.
